A Decade of Dominance by Men’s 1st Team
100/100 Wins. 10 Seasons of dominance was rounded off this summer. As the Men’s 1st team completed a feat which had never been achieved in the Men’s South Wales Premier 1’s 97-year history before. This victory broke the previous record of 9 consecutive titles set. With the past record being set by CLTC predecessors between 1947 and 1955.
Team tennis is the heartbeat of Cardiff Lawn Tennis Club, with over 18 teams playing regularly in the Summer Leagues. So, the flagship Men’s team having such success at the highest tier in the system can offer nothing but encouragement and pride to the rest of the club. The 1st Team squad, which consists of several players who have risen through the junior ranks and lower teams, has the perfect balance of talent and experience (with an age range of 16 to 50). It is this balance and team spirit that are integral to the success of the team. The squad also competes in the LTA National League, which is the highest level of League tennis in Great Britain. For its successes, the team received the ‘2023 Tennis Wales Club Team of the Year’ award.
The success of this team also continues in the winter when the conditions are more challenging. This requires further commitment to endure the infamous Welsh Weather. Yet the Men’s 1st Team have won 7 consecutive Division 1 titles in this system.
The Club are immensely proud of the long-lasting success of this team. The complete loyalty and commitment shown, both on and off the court, has been exemplary. The team has been a credit to both the club, and its community.
