Thank you to members for a Wonderful 2022!
We are writing to you today as we enter a new year, to highlight some of the many successful activities enjoyed by our club in what has proved to be a wonderful 2022.
Below we have summarised our key achievements-
· Amazing team tennis performances. An incredible number of matches have been played by our club teams, with 332 matches played this year.
· Court facility upgrade with new LED lights and rebuilt tennis courts. The total investment: £188,000.
· Increased competitive opportunities for members. In total 571 internal matches were played.
· Improved opportunities for social play.
Our long and proud history of competitive team tennis in South Wales and beyond continues with 36 teams regularly playing in the various Summer and Winter leagues, completing 332 matches this year. This resulted in 12 of our teams either winning or being promoted in their respective league.
We have continued to expand our internal competitive opportunities which includes a box league competition run through an app called Scala Sports. Over 100 members participated. We also held a tiered club championship system which gives everyone a chance of winning their respective category. Many of the 89 new members that played competitive matches were doing so for the very first time. A combined total of 571 matches were played in the box league and club championship 2022 events.
As well as our competitive opportunities mentioned above, we have provided additional member activities that together constituted a compelling set of social opportunities for all members. Our social tennis this year included weekly Men’s, Ladies and Mix-in nights, American tournaments, informal mix-in groups, and social events such as a new members evening, an end of season celebration, a Jubilee event and curry night. We held our annual week-long trip to the Torquay Open, and a group of members travelled to Bournemouth to support the Men’s 1st team in the National finals. We have just heard that the Men’s 1st team have been shortlisted for the Tennis Wales club team of the year award, so fingers crossed and we will find out if they win at an awards dinner in February.
Our broad ranging coaching programme offered sessions for mini’s, juniors, students and team players as well as new sessions for adult beginners. The age range of players having coaching is from 4-89yrs old with standards of players from hitting a ball for the first time to British champions.
To continue to provide safe and superior facilities to welcome higher numbers of regular tennis players, two courts have been rebuilt at a cost of £74,000. As a result, we now have seven safe all weather courts. We have also fitted new LED floodlights on three courts at a cost of £54,000. A further four courts will receive floodlight conversion to LED in January 2023. This will be at a cost of £60,000. The total financial investment in our membership year has totalled £188,000.
We will continue to develop and provide great tennis opportunities as widely and inclusively as possible and all this within our well-managed financial framework and long term plan. This applies to tennis at all levels as our well costed and affordable investment plans offer great value for money for all members.
We are a proud club with a great tradition and will continue to focus on the future. Tennis lies at our heart. We have a healthy, cohesive membership, highly engaged in playing tennis, upgraded facilities, financial buoyancy all steered by a committed, capable and diverse management committee.
2022 was a great year for the club and we would like to thank all members for being a part of these achievements. Please continue to support the club in 2023 and let’s make sure we have another outstanding year!
Thank you
John Williams Graham Webster
