THEY THINK IT’S ALL OVER….IT IS NOW!!!
Well our first Season of this winter’s mixed singles campaign is over. This was our biggest ever boxleague with 19 boxes, 10 divisions and 76 players. Overall we played 108 matches which is a record!! There were 6 unavoidable concessions, all due to illness/injury – Phil Rendle (2), Richie (3), Jon Pryce (1).
Here are the highlights ……..
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Snowy is our 7th ever boxleague champion and our Chairman was a very close “first loser”, their championship shoot out was very high quality indeed and lived up to its expectations. Evergreen Ken East and Jon Pryce are relegated.
EUROPA
Brandon and Meryl won their respective boxes and will be in the champions league in the new season. Jon and Dave were runners up. Rhian pulled off the great escape to relegate her husband and Pete Clue now realises at last that he has to focus more on singles than mixed doubles as he gets relegated for the first time since god was a lad. Chris Rees just about managed to hang on but don’t worry with 9 new players coming in this season I am confident I can get him relegated!!!
PREMIER 1
Well done to Nick and Brian who won all their matches to secure promotion. Hard luck to Paul and Val who will be dropping down one level. Dave won’t have to face his son Darren just yet but based on what I saw when we played it won’t be long!!!
PREMIER 2
Jon Hillard gets some payback for all that hard practice he puts in securing promotion with the previously under-rated Rod Davies who will now be appearing on everyone’s radar screens. Matthew and Maeve are relegated.
PREMIER 3
Peter Fordyce EVENTUALLY played his long overdue match against box league veteran Dermot and got a win which means he is promoted along with tough cookie Jon FL with Ben and Sam getting relegated.
CHAMPIONSHIP
Well done to Paul Senter and Som who will be going up after securing 3 wins each. Newbies Laura and James have found out that there are no easy matches in the boxleague and are both relegated.
DIVISION 1
Just when I thought I had seen it all in the boxleague Dai Griffin surprises me – not only did he play his matches on time but he also won them all to get promoted alongside boxleague poet Marion Croft. Paul Rudolph is re-grouping after a relegation scare but its Andrea and Jo that go down.
DIVISION 2
John Hamilton made an impressive debut with 3 wins to get promotion at the first time of asking along with experienced boxleague campaigner Stephen Ng. Phil Rendle is relegated and out of the boxleague and Peter Bradley is also relegated.
DIVISION 3
Another impressive debut this time by He He who will be a bit of a banana skin as he climbs the boxleague after 3 straight wins. Vicky joins him after winning both her matches. We are taking the opportunity to refresh the bottom of the table so, using the parlance of Dermot O’Leary, it’s a “double elimination” as the bottom 2 in each box get relegated, in this case Shelley, Gillian, Rossi and Richie.
DIVISION 4
Well done to Alex and Christopher who top their respective boxes and they will be joined by Cathy and Jane in Division 3.
Ok that’s it. I am meeting with Alex this evening and we hope to have the new league out tomorrow. There are going to be some changes as we have 9 players coming in, some are old friends returning and some are brand new to the boxleague. If you are anywhere near the top and/or Chris Rees be very scared!!!!
