OMG just 7 days to go!!!!

3 November 2014 No Comment

Well box-leaguers there are just 7 days left to get your matches played and here is a quick canter through the current state of play…….

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Well there is good news and bad news here. The good news is Ken Has played all his matches in good time. The bad news (for Ken) is he lost them all and is relegated. Paul, Snowy and Jon are all acting like a bunch of teenagers at their first high-school disco too nervous to ask each other to dance for fear of rejection!!!!! Come on boys …..its not life and death……its much more important than that….there is a box league title or the humiliation of relegation at stake!!!!

EUROPA

On the WEST side my hitting partner Brandon is all set to play Champions League tennis next season. Hywel and Rhian are keeping relegation in the family and Jon Riff is safe. On the EAST side I am still coming to terms with the fact that the ever (over) confident Chris Rees has somehow avoided what some say is a much deserved relegation by the skin of his teeth. It seems coming out of the RAF after 30 years (well done by the way) has effected Pete’s judgement playing two back to back box league matches on Saturday morning and losing them both to get relegated and keep that smile firmly fixed on Chris Rees’ face!!!! Meryl and Broady face a show down to see who is promoted

PREMIER 1

On the EAST side its all over with Brian up and Val down. On the WEST side Nick and I are both unbeaten and have to slug it out to see who goes up. Newbie Darren narrowly avoided relegation ending up on 5 points, the same as Paul Cousins, but with a marginally better set differential. Good to see Paul having a lesson yesterday although the saying “locking the stable door after the horse had bolted” did leap into my head!!!!

PREMIER 2

On the WEST side Jon is promoted and just one match to play between Buddug and Matthew. Matthew needs to win convincingly to avoid relegation. Graham can only look on and hope things go his way. Over in the EAST well done to Rod who is convincingly promoted. Maeve put up a good fight but is now relegated after losing to Ivan in 3 sets. Gareth and Ivan are still to play with men’s 4th team bragging rights at stake!!!

PREMIER 3

Not sure why the WEST side is so slow with promotion and relegation still undecided and Dermot still to play Sam and Peter. The EAST side is showing them the way with all matches played and Jon FL up and Ben Chung down!!!

CHAMPIONSHIP

Just one match to play at this level between newbies James and Aled which will determine relegation in the EAST with Geoff still not safe. Paul and Som are both promoted so well done guys

DIV 1

Huge shock in the WEST…….Dai Griff plays all his matches with more than a week to go!!!! Oh yes better mention he got promoted to give a balanced picture!! Andrea has had a bit of a baptism of fire in the box league with Dai, Arfon and Peter all proving once and for all that the age of chivalry is definitely over…well in the box league at least!! The EAST is also complete with Marion getting past the post at last and winning promotion. Paul Rudolph managed to get through his “squeaky bum” moment and avoid relegation this time by beating Jo yesterday

DIV 2

On the WEST John is up but Phil Rendle is holding up the fight to avoid relegation with 2 matches left against Vlad and Antoine – come on Phil get them played. In the EAST side Peter and Alison are paralysing the box with both needing to play 2 matches so we know who is relegated and who is promoted

DIV 3

The WEST side is all done with He He up and Shelley down. The EAST still has some work to do. Richie will go down (in flames!!!) on the basis he has slipped his disc and cant fulfil his fixtures but hopefully he will be back next season.

DIV 4

This division is complete with Alex and Christopher promoted from the WEST and EAST respectively.

OK that’s it everyone. If you still have matches to play then please get them done as there are lots of keen people on the waiting list including our favourite box-league barrister with the big serve and the flash forehand….Richard Cole!!!

If you don’t already do so then please follow the club on Twitter @TennisCardiff to find out the latest #boxleague news and hear all the inside stories some of which are actually true!!!

Cheers
