POWERPLAY IS COMING

25 November 2013 No Comment

POWERPLAY will give everyone in the box league a chance to challenge a player up to 3 LEVELS above them in the league to a one off match. If the challenger wins then they swap places with the defeated player in the box league for the new season. The cost of a POWERPLAY is £5. A player can only be involved in one POWERPLAY whether as challenger or challenged so you will need to get in fast.

I know some of you will think it may be a bit harsh to fall up to 3 levels based on just one match particularly as there are a lot of “banana skins” out there plus we have a bunch of new people coming in from the RESERVES list whom most of you won’t know and all of whom will be eligible to challenge. I have thought about this and if you are scared and lack confidence in your ability then you don’t have to accept the challenge but in this case you have to pay the £5 POWERPLAY fee and of course be open to much ridicule from your fellow box leaguers!!

I will send out the provisional box league boxes for the new season as fast as I can after the deadline of midnight on 1st December. You can challenge anytime after midnight on 1st December. All challenges have to be made through the box league google group and not directly between players. If you receive a challenge you have 24 hours to accept or reject the challenge again through the box league google group. If you are silent then this will be taken as tacit acceptance of the challenge. Once a challenge is accepted the match MUST be played. All POWERPLAY matches must be completed within the first 2 weeks of the new season (by midnight on 15th December). In this POWERPLAY period NO other box league matches can be played so if you want to be involved and keep playing competitive singles in this period make sure you challenge someone then you are guaranteed a match!! Please post all results through the box league google group headed POWERPLAY so as to differentiate from normal box league matches.

All money raised through this POWERPLAY initiative will be donated to CARDIFF STARS, a charity which Cardiff Lawn Tennis has a close association with and which is an extremely worthy cause. Please leave all fees behind the bar at the club and make sure you write your name on the list there for this purpose BEFORE you play.

The box league is run on a voluntary basis by me and costs you nothing . Collectively we have played over 1000 competitive box league matches since it was started so you must value your membership of it. So please do something in return and fully embrace this POWERPLAY initiative, get involved, make a challenge, pay your fee, test yourself against players above you in the league and raise money for a great charity. Those of you at the higher end of the league who are most likely to be challenged please don’t chicken out. Meet the challenges head on and justify your position in the league!

Anyway box leaguers over to you. Please don’t let this iniaitve fall flat. Get challenging from midnight 1st December. Any queries make sure you ask now.
