The new boxleague season starts tomorrow and such is the demand for spaces we have had to add another 2 boxes making this our biggest ever with an incredible 11 divisions, 21 boxes and 84 players hopefully combining to produce 126 competitive singles matches to be played before midnight on 4th January 2015!!!!!<\/p>\n
When you go to our website www.cltcboxleague.co.uk you will see quite a few changes to the league structure, some of which are cosmetic, and others which have real consequences for players in the particular boxes. These changes have been made to accommodate the extra numbers and to improve the boxleague experience and I will outline them below together with the rationale:-<\/p>\n
Anyone who has looked at the waiting list recently will have seen that we have loads of people eager to join the boxleague. The challenge for us is that we can really only now add players when we have people leaving (“dead man’s shoes”) or if we can get 8 people of similar standard so we can add an extra division. We have only had 1 person drop out (Phil Rendle) so we decided to add a new level immediately below the Champions League. We retained the “Europa” name but this is a brand new division in essence. We filled this box with Ken and Jon, who were relegated from the Champions League, with Jon Rifflart and Dave Broad, who were runners up behind Brandon and Meryl, and with the 4 strongest new entrants (in our opinion!!!!) \u2013 Aeron Evans, Rhod Harmes, Tony Gaspar and Omega Sayer. To be honest we weren’t sure about Omega as he is new to the club but with a name like that he is definitely one to watch (the horologists amongst you will appreciate that joke!!). We then added the next 4 new entries, Richard Cole, Martin Rhys, John Cowell and Chris Evans, in the space created in the division below which has become the “Bundesliga” . The old Premier 1 has become “La Liga” and Premier 2 becomes plain old “Premier”.<\/p>\n
Now the next change is quite interesting and has been done to accelerate movement up and down the structure and to keep the journey men amongst you on your toes!! You will only be in the “Play Offs” for 1 season. The top 2 of both boxes get promoted and the bottom two get relegated (winner goes straight up and runner up goes up and across so that everyone plays someone new the next season). This will mean there are 2 promotion spots in each box for anyone in the “Championship” and two relegation spots in each box for anyone in the “Premier”. So in a nut shell….you can’t relax if you have won one match thinking the worst that will happen is you will hold your position!!!<\/p>\n
At the bottom, things were stagnating a bit because there is no relegation etc and we were conscious of the fact that there was a hard core of players who were ending up playing each other season after season so to break this cycle up and make it more interesting we are now promoting two out of each box in division 4 (the runners up go up and across etc) and relegating two from division 3.<\/p>\n
I hope that is all clear. Good luck to everyone and please please please arrange and play your matches early. A number of you were almost caught out by the bad weather at the end of this last season. Also, when someone in your box contacts you to arrange a match please don’t ignore the email or text \u2013 answer them promptly – It’s rude not to!!!<\/p>\n
